WaterWalks Kickoff Community Luncheon
Time & Location
About the Event
WaterWalks: Creative Action for Community Justice is hosting its Kickoff Community Luncheon! The luncheon is a space for local artists, activist, community members, and students to come together to discuss creative action for community environmental justice in Pittsburgh.
The luncheon will take place at Repair the World Workshop (6022 Broad St, Pittsburgh, PA 15206) on Saturday, March 23 from 12:00 - 2:00 pm. Everyone is welcome and attendance is free, but we ask you RSVP by submitting this Google form. Also, please feel free to share this invitation with your colleagues, friends, and family members who may be interested. Our Facebook event is here.
As an ongoing project, WaterWalks hopes to communicate, challenge, and understand different aspects of water injustice through art, and everything we do is guided by the ideas, recommendations, and concerns of the Pittsburgh community. In the next couple of months we will be organizing a series of “Walks” (or creative experiences) in collaboration with local artists and we’re hoping to use the Kickoff Community Luncheon as a space to share ideas, present ongoing environmental justice projects, and gain a more complete sense of what people in the community would like to know about water justice.
WaterWalks began in May of 2018 when a broad-ranging group of CMU students came together to discuss local issues of environmental justice, specifically those related to water. Realizing the gap between our own lived experiences and local issues, we turned to the Pittsburgh community to learn more. Over the past months, we’ve been fortunate to learn from local artists, activists, and community members who’ve been confronting issues of water injustice and we look forward to continuing those conversations at our Kickoff Luncheon and subsequent Walks!
